ALOHA is owned and operated by two friends who were born and raised in Bar Harbor.
The original owner, George Seavey, brings a wealth of culinary and business expertise to Aloha. He started his culinary journey at a young age cooking in the galley of his father’s fishing boat. When not in the kitchen, George could be found on deck learning the fishing trade. Customers enjoy hearing the stories from George’s younger years and are always excited to learn more about the local fishing industry. When George became old enough, his father sent him to culinary school to sharpen his skills. Soon after he returned to the town he loved to begin his career working in several of Bar Harbor’s downtown restaurants in the late 80’s and 90’s. During COVID, George brought the poke dining concept to Bar Harbor after seeing how popular it was in Portland. He formed and opened Aloha which has been in successful operation for the past five years. When he is not in the kitchen, George can be found spending time with the love of his life, his daughter Lilah or his dog Henry. George is always giving back to the local community or lending a helping hand to his friends.
The second owner, Jennifer Spurling, grew up with George and also comes from a long line of lobsterman whose lineage originated on Cranberry Island just off the MDI coast. She worked in Bar Harbor restaurants as a waitress throughout high school and college. Upon graduating college with a degree in Business Administration, she entered Corporate America. There she worked in customer service in the telecommunications industry for almost twenty years. Tired and burnt out and yearning to be closer to home, she purchased a motel and apartment building close to MDI which she ran for almost ten years. Recently, in the Spring of 2024, Jennifer was able to make the move back into her childhood home in Bar Harbor where she joined George as co-owner of Aloha. In her not so spare time, Jenn enjoys spending time with her daughter Ava who attends MDI High School, enjoying Acadia or trying to keep up with her dogs Joseph and Hazel.
